A $25 roundtrip bus ride got us to Vienna in about 5 hours. This was the first trip we've taken that was not arranged by the program so the organization was somewhat lacking, which was actually a breath of fresh air. I'm sure the other passengers on the Eurolines bus were elated to have eighteen 20…

Beijing, China -› Sydney, Australia -› …
I went to Beijing in February for business. We had the most incredible time. The first day we spent at the Summer Palace wandering around lazily shooting photos and joking with each other. That afternoon we ate our first chinese meal, in this little dive in the Historic district of Beijing. The next day we all hopped into a van and drove to the Great Wall. It was amazing! We again took our time and shot tons of photos. Then we rode the Toboggan ride down the mountain. Too much fun.

I love layovers. The next best thing to staying in a place long enough to get to know it is the "running tour" to get a taste of the place between planes. Always with that added excitement of racing the non-refundable flight at the end of the stay : )Well, because of weather back in the US, my 1…

Valbonne, France -› Antibes, France -› …
In the fall semester of 2005 I had the chance to live in Valbonne, France while I was studying. It was this that gave me my jumpstart in travelling. The chance to have a place I could come back to while I was in Europe made much easier for me to travel the continent pretty much every weeked. Not only did I visit some cities outside France, but I also got the chance to visit some nice French cities and towns along the way. Evidently Paris was at the top ofthe list.

I think I've found my new favorite city on this trip. It's definitely Vienna. This place is so cool! The arts flouish here, with the help of government subsidies, and the music is wonderful. A group of us went to an opera house and watched The Magic Flute with cheap standing room tickets. The main …

Paris, France -› Rome, Italy -› …
I planned Vienna to be a 'vacation from my vacation' as I knew I'd have a lot of walking to do in Paris and Rome and would need a break before Oktoberfest in Munich afterward. However, I underestimated Vienna a little as there is quite a lot to see there. First of all, it is the cleanest city in Eu…

What an amazing difference between the trains in Italy and Austria. Our train to Vienna had real sheets, and down pillows, whereas in Italy we had felt blankets and pillows the size of our heads, stuffed with cotton balls. Vienna was so pristine, open, clean, in contrast to the cities w…

We swapped hostels today, not that there was anything wrong with the
first one apart from some loud snoring from our room mates, but the
original booking mentioned we might actually get moved into separate
rooms and didn't want that to happen. We were glad to move as the new
place is very…
