Day 4
After checking out and having breakfast (Me again half an apple, Im just not fit for having breakfast) we went to Karlsplatz again for some shopping and we took some pictures from the city. We walked around and visited a very pretty church we saw on the way. It was a good last day, not too active but just nice. We had lunch and went over to the metro station to get back to the hostel. We had left our luggage there untill we had to go to the airport. At the metro station we say this lit...

I've mentioned Schloss Schönbrunn (Royal Castle) before.
It's an easy spot to find and get to and is just out of the city a few stops on the underground.
It's my favourite tourist attraction in Vienna for a number of reasons. It was originally the summer residence of the royal family and it remains a magical location to this day with some glorious gardens surrounding it.
Located in the gardens is the Zoo. It's a great zoo and worth a day or half day if you have the time and like yo...

VIENNA – CITY OF MY DREAMS
Even in the short time I spent in wonderful Wien, I experienced the charm of the city on the Danube. It’s easy to understand why Vienna is a breeding ground for creative people. Perhaps Jagmohan Singh Barhok said it best, “Vienna symbolizes everything that is worth liking and loving— grace, glamour, gaiety, sophistication, hospitality and camaraderie.”
I’ve included the German and English lyrics of the famous, ‘Vi...

Recently, Gene (genetravelling) who is in Vienna, made a visit to the Museum of Modern Art and the Erwin Wurm exihibit. He got a couple of very interesting shots while there and shared them with us in his blog.
For those of you who are not familiar with Erwin Wurm, he was born in 1954 in Vienna, Austria. I guess you could say that he is a modern artist who thinks well out the conventional box. He doesn’t work with paint and brush, but with ideas and thoughts that...

When I last left you, I was very tired, but very happy to be in Vienna. The same is true on both counts now, but today, I have stories to tell. On our first day in Vienna, the group had class and then 2 visits in the afternoon. Unfortunately, the hotel we were to have our class in thought we were an Italian group of around 20 people and seemed a little shocked when 48 of us walked into the tiny lobby. Things were quickly worked out and class began, I was the powerpoint operator for the cl...

After dropping off part of our tour group in another part of the city, they stood there looking helplessly at their maps. I was glad we decided to do the optional excursion to Schönbrunn Palace. On the way there, we were somewhat enjoying the bus ride when all of a sudden, we heard a "screeching noise" accompanied by a "thud". Ouch. Our bus driver, Franco who had excellent driving skills had hit a cab! He got out and while checking out the situation (along with our bus), a blond female ...

So, I'm waiting at the hostel waiting for my friend, Alma, to meet up with me. I haven't seen her since last year. How funny that the last time I saw her was in Hawaii when I returned from Europe. Now, we're meeting in Europe! Well, I came into Vienna last night and once I got out of the airport, I felt the freezing temps hit my face, hands, and legs! It's soooooo coooooooold here! I was waiting for the bus in the cold too. It was kind of cool to see ...

People i met here who contributed to, and improved my trip: Chris (Denmark), Tyler (American) Well
technically speaking it began the day before but this was Englands
first game ;) A 1-0 win over Paraguay and an American guy
called Tylers birthday set up the night perfectly. If
anyone is heading to Vienna make sure to check out the Chelsea bar, its
a whole load of fun! Dancing the night away until 5am
whilst taking shots of Strobh and Tequila with a Danish guy...

This is the shitter in my office and it suffers from the common affliction of most German speaking toilets. It has a 'Pooh Shelf'. This now anachronistic function was in ancient times to facilitate a good inspection of your stool for health purposes. Surprisingly, this is no longer required, nor in fact enacted. However these German speaking nations persist in making these DISGUSTING toilets. The unfortunate end result is that u get a big pile of turd steaming away in the open air stinking out...

Vienna is beautiful. Yesterday, we took a 5 hour bike tour of the city, which, to say the least, was tiring. But we saw every inch of Vienna. Again, I took probably 70 pictures, but I have yet to find a internet cafe or computer that allows me to upload them from my camera. This photo-blog isn't really working out like I planned...shoulda brought my own laptop! Oh well...if I can't upload them now, when I get home, there will be several hundred to look at at once.
Today, we're off to the fin...

Being in Hungary and now Austria, you gotta wonder how little countries like this (okay, Hungary ain't tiny but it ain't no Iceland either) managed to take over massive parts of the world at one point in time. Same goes for England. I mean, really, what does that tiny island have to offer? They don't have that many people. There are limited natural resources. Being surrounded by water is convenient, but I wouldn't say they have a fab locale. You gotta look ...

i visited ariel in vienna last april and i stayed in his small but cozy flat in the south part of the city in simmering. i cant believe it, all the time the sun was shining brightly! it was no contest compared to düsseldorf where it was almost dark and rainy. i didnt took much pics here, because i wanted to enjoy the sun so much. i was at the donauinsel (danube island) and i was so tanned when i was back in germany.vienna is a masterpiece, beautiful and gorgeous architectures of the ha...

Seeing Europe in a different light each summer is a real treat. There is something to say about getting old - it becomes Europe!!!!
An old map of Vienna was my guide to tour cafeshops in this low profile capital, a tour worth taking. Not much has changed since early last century, same decor, sometimes same menus. A classic! In the hot summer months, remember, only Cafe Central has AC.
