Vienna - shopping
Vienna - shopping Reviews
Jun 20, 2007
Compared to most European cities the shopping in Vienna is not fantastic.
However, there is still some decent shopping to be found.
There are a couple of massive shopping centres but they are on the outskirts of the city and not easy for tourists to get to. If you want more info on these just send me a message.
I would recommend Kärtner Strasse (street) which is in the very centre of the central district. It starts at the Stephans Dom (Stevens Cathedral) and runs south-west towards the Stadt Oper (City Opera House). This is a busy street with lots of cafe's, icecream and shopping. It is a little expensive though..
If you want more affordable shops. Strut along Mariahilfer Strasse. This is just west of the city and starts at the Museums Quartier and heads west past Westbahnhof (one of the big train stations). Its a long street with plenty to see. The best and most popular youth hostel (Wombat's lounge) is also located behind Westbahnhof and at the end of Mariahilfer Strasse.
Just north of the city opera is also some very ritzy back streets with High End designer label shopping.
Other funky shops can be found scattered all through 7th, 8th and 9th districts. If you have the time, a wander is always bound to please...
