Very Good Reviews

So..am in the middle of Florence, great city, great architecture! everything is just so lovely and so italian until i see this : A gelateria (an ice cream shop) with the name 'Very Good'. Well I found that quite amusing! The gelateria was more than obviously for tourists.. and the name 'very good' was just too risky in my opinion..
If what they want to achieve is get tourists to their shop and not locals (with an english cheesy name)then the least i can assume, as a tourist, is that they are going to speak english (at a certain level) or at least (!) they will want to help me understand the price list and not just pretend they dont speak english so i ll mix everything up and buy the most expensive ice cream! i know this sounds a bit ridiculus but i ve paid lots of money for unworthy ice creams in florence and i just want to warn the next travellers!
Well beyond the fact that I believe the ice cream in the centre of florence ('Very Good' is a good example of what i mean) is seriously overpriced (in one gelateria I paid 7 euros for a scoop of ice cream)!, I also believe that the quality of the ice cream is not good enough. I can only accuse what I know of. So in no circumstance I would reccomend very good as a place to get good quality ice cream or at least 'tasty ice cream'!

Unfortunately what you wrote is so true. I lived a year in Florence in 1995 and even then it was so full of tourist that it was difficult to speak Italian! My studies were wonderful, and I met so many great people, but I feel like Florence and Venice have become Italian Disneyland...where is the real italy? You have to get outside of Florence to see it.

Yes, the gelato in Florence is much lower quality than in other places, especially in the center. But there is a great place near the stadio, on the outskirts going towards Fiesole and Settignano I believe.. Tremendous pastries and cakes and a huge selection of gelato but excellent quality!! Sadly, I can't remember the name of it...
