Vero Beach Overview

Vero Beach is a nice town of just under 16,000 (down 10% since 2000) located along Interstate 95, U.S. Highway 1 and Highway A1A in Indian River County in Central Florida on the Atlantic Coast. Settlers came into the Indian River area starting in the 1840s and some of them settled in the Vero Beach area. The town itself was not laid out, however, until 1914, and was incorporated in 1919. Growth was spurred by the railroad and the citrus industry. Today tourism is one of the mainstays of the economy too. In 1925 Indian River County was formed and Vero Beach was selected as the county seat. Several notable people have ties to Vero Beach including: Writer Carl Hiaasen, singer Gloria Estefan, and actress Lake Bell.

Vero Beach has several buildings of historical and/or architectural interest. There are one district and 16 individual locations in Vero Beach listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Vero Beach also has some very nice museums like the Museum of Art and the Heritage Center.
