Venezia!!!

This was my last day in Venice :( . I woke up early and decided to visit the museums, no strike today pleaseeeee! I just left my things in the hostel ;) It’s a good idea making friends :)   It was early. Nobody was walking in the streets. I met a gondolero who wasn’t working yet, and he gave me some tips about how to visit the museums in the fastest and also least expensive way.   First I visited Museo Correr, then Palazzo Ducale. It’s so beautiful! The Palazzo (I...

Venice was my favorite city! I've been obsessed with it ever since my freshman year Venetian history class. We only spent a day and a half there, but I wish I could have been there a whole week! We called months in advance for tickets to San Marco, but we couldn't manage to get any, which was disappointing. I really wanted to see the amazing mosaic inside, especially after all I had already read about it and the extreme influence of the Byzantium on its art as well as its architecture. We did...

Our first glimpse of Venice at night.. sigh for digital cameras that cannot do well at night... I believe I ended off on day 5 in Italy in Venice. We woke up in the morning early for a good start on our only day there. We had free breakfast with our hotel (it was the most expensive hotel we stayed at during the whole week) We were sitting chatting when a man at the table next to us starts talking to us. We find out we have traveled around the world to be sitting next to someone ...

My Last Night in Venice, Piazza San Marco
posted by:
Jun 03, 2008
My last night in Venice was about as perfectas I could ask for.  The evening was clear and pleasant though the moon was noticeably absent in this part of the world.  After cleaning up and having a bite to eat I made my way to Piazza San Marco. I thought it would be nice to spend my last night listening to live music and imagining myself dancing in the massive square (to much applaud and admirationsof course).  Of the three bands I prefer one but visited all of them for differ...

Wow... if you've ever been to Venice in February during the carnivale, you'll know what I mean.   I've been to Venice many times before and yes, it can get very crowded especially during the summer.  But this was something else.  It took me roughly 1 hour just to get to San Marco square from the train station.  There are times when you're walking down an alley and suddenly there will be a swarm of people and you will be stuck there in a human traffic jam without anywh...

The picturesque Canal and a flapping banner (4)

(cont'd...) The beauty of Venice has been visually immortalized numerous times - as far as I've became aware of, in travel magazines, TV shows, and even from any delightful souvenir a tourist can have his hands upon. The evoking images of Grand Canal with the Salute Church as backdrop; gondolas gliding over the sparkling emerald water that mimics shiny gemstones spread across green turf on a sunny day, alternately sending off their reflec...

Venice: city on the water
posted by:
May 18, 2007 - Aug 04, 2007
I’ll just start off by saying that Venice is definitely the most beautiful place that I have ever been to. Although it is very touristy (I heard nearly as much English there from Americans than I did Italian) and expensive, there is no other place like Venizia. But I’ll start the recap from the beginning.             We spent the first day in Padua, going to the churches and exploring the small town. It was beautiful, despite...

Contiki Day 7 - Munich to Venice, Italy
posted by:

We were up early this morning, had a quick breakfast and hopped on the bus. Magoo was driving us to where we had to hop on the boat which would take us to Venice, as there are no cars on the island. We walked along the dock and let me tell you it was a prett rickety dock!! We hopped on the boat and it was really hot already, the temperature had really increased as we were heading further south. The boat ride was only about 20 minutes and before long we could see the floating/sinking city! It...

The Italian Frontier to Venice
posted by:

Tarvisio is the first town after crossing the border into Italy. There was a bit of stop here for passport control and clearing customs. FS, the Italian national railway, took over control of the train from ÖBB and Austrian and Italian locomotives were exchanged. I had to document the stop and border crossing, so leaned out the window to take a photo of the platform. I noted a fellow waving his arms wildly. "What's with that guy?" I wondered. Trying to catch a  tra...

Oh dear waking up was not fun. Not fun at all. I was very very ill this morning after last nights wine experience lol. I somehow managed to make it to the little supermarket and bought a massive bottle of water and Gatorade to get re-hydrated. I must of looked bad because the guy at the till just laughed at me and was like, “are you ok?” haha. I got some for Melissa too because I knew she would probably not be feeling that well when she woke up. She was though in better shape then me lol....

There are so many wonderful and not so wonderful stories to tell I don’t quite know where to start…How about a story about a suitcase, nun, pigeon, and lobster?             We left Slovenia on a train headed for Venice.  We would have to take two different trains, switching at the capital of Slovenia.  Or first train was a middle of the road compartment train.  The six...

I continue with my statement that i am currently living in a storybook. Many days i simply cannot believe that this life is mine. This weekend in Venice is no different, except that it was sure fire proof that this storybook is a fairytale. The weekend started off fairly unglamourous as compared to the ordinary adventure. The group of six i was travelling with left the Thoresby house at around 10:30pm thursday night even though our flight was not scheduled to depart until 6:30am. The r...
