(cont'd...) It must be the smallest elevator I've seen, only three of us were able to fit in going up to his apartment. There we exchanged pleasantries with his family and I was told that it's his birthday that day. After lunch, we continued our conversation&nb…

Well our night wasn't all that great after we got to the hotel! The hotel is a four star hotel. But it didn't feel like that at all. Our beds were so uncomfortable, there was a barking dog outside all night long, then some drunk guy singing and cheering himself on (which I must say was pretty funny…

Our evening ended with a lovely GONDOLA ride and a bottle of champange. There were 6 girls in the gondola but only 3 of us drinking. Bring on the bubbly! It's a very peaceful ride (I think my mom was bored) and I imagine that it would be romanic for a couple. The gondolas left in sets of 3 for…

For me - resident of the city surrounded by sea from three sides - Venice was like a breath of fresh air. I was all smiles when my train slid onto the bridge at the city entrance and the wide water area opened to my eyes. And the view from Campanile on St. Mark's Square was absolutely breath-ta…

A labyrinth of enchantments. Grandiose and majestic architechture, the gothic alongside the baroque. The splendour of the renaissance mingled with the magnificence of the Byzantine. Greek churches, Jewish Ghettos, it is truly the most unique city.
The adventure began at the Piazz…

On the evening we arrived in Venice there was a great 45-minute firework. As if they would like to welcome us.. :p We stayed in the 3star Centauro hotel, which was in the same neighborhood as - and very close to - the San Marco square. We bought a Rolling Venice card (EUR 4), which gives…

One day trip to Venice that I got as a present for my birthday. I didn't want to go alone, so i took two friends with me. On the same day "regata Storica" was in town. This event happens every year on the first Sunday of September. While most tourist rushed to Canal Grande to watch regatta, we used this opportunity to wander around a little less crowded labyrinth of allies and canals.

So, Venice is getting better- my last entry was a little negative, I know, but I was having a bit of a day....
We've seen so many beautiful things, and aside from the hotel staff and train station staff, people here are very nice. The setting makes it all worth it. The students have be…

As Indiana Jones said, as he stepped out of the gondola in The Last Crusade, "Ah Venice." And that's exactly what I said. I swore, while standing atop of one of the many arched bridges found in and about the maze of great Venice, that I could die there. Putting aside the fact that the city is sinki…

I decided to head to Venice to get some extra-special x-mas presents to take home for friends and family in Ireland. I didn't know exactly what it was I was looking for, but I knew that "special" can always be found in Venice.
Even though it was freezing cold, Venice was packed with tourists. Mos…
