Venice (California) Canals
Venice (California) Canals Reviews
Aug 19, 2007
Will add more pictures of Venice Canals eventually since I seem to visit twice a year, whenever friends are in town.
This is a bit of an oasis in Venice, where small houses line a man made canal system. While the property is only for the rich and famous, the area is open the public and quite a sight. Each tiny house has a small dock area where canoes are kept, and you can literally row down the canal, although I've never seen anyone do it. Ducks and swans (usually a whole family) will paddle along right beside you. Some houses are modern marvels, while others are rather dilapidated. If you're lucky, you can rent one for the summer at around $4K.

Apparantly, Venice was built to be based
on Venice, Italy, and used to be comprised of a lot of canals just like
the European version. Most of them have disappeared by now, but
there are still a few left you can walk around. There are lots of
really expensive houses along the canals, and its fun to stroll by and
check out the interesting architecture. Also, how cool would it
be to live in a house where you can jump in your boat to go to your
neighbor's house? Maybe I'll just dock Eric's sailboat at my
house then in between his many oceanic travels.
