Veliky Novgorod Overview

Veliky Novgorod, one of the oldest most beautiful cities in Russia. First mentioned in the historical annals in 859, this city has unending historical adventures and gorgeous scenery. It is a 3 hour bus ride from Saint-Petersburg, and a 9 hour train ride from Moscow.
Centered around the Volkhov River, Lake Ilmen is a hot-spot for the summer months.
Be sure to spend a lot of time in the main Kremlin area. This is the walled section of the city, the inner most ring of what used to be three giant brick walls surrounding Novgorods inhabitants. Rachmoninoff park near the Kremlin has a statue of the famous composer, as he grew up near by, and plays Rachmoninoff music 24/7.

Head out to the country to see the Wooden Architecture Museum, where they have historical buildings of all kinds from Russian peasant life. Also near by you can picnic by the river, or visit the ruins of Rurik the first prince of Russia.

Coffee Land is a great coffee shop near the Volkhov Hotel, and Chorniy Continent is a favorite on Sankt Peterburgskaya Ulitza.
