While sitting dejectedly around the fire in the lounge trying to get warm for the 5th day in a row of the depressingly cold, greyness and rain of winter, Erle and I asked each other just why we were here freezing when we could quite easily be somewhere else i…

We Flew to Vanuatu on Jun 9th to get away from the cold temperatures of South Australia.
It wasn't as hot as we thought it would be due to the early travel. Normaly we hit the Pacific in Oct. We didn't need fans or airconditioning at night, but the sea's were still warm to snorkel!
We stayed at a…

I think the Bus system in Port Vila has got to be one of the best in the world! For a flat rate of just over one dollar you can jump on any of the countless mini-busses and be taken to anywhere you wish within the city of port Villa. Just like a Taxi you may think, but as each mini bus may pick…

It rained for the first time today. We had just mounted our horses at Club Hippique when the rain came down in bucket loads. My shoes filled with rain water quickly, and everyone was drenched to the bone in tropical downpour. Actually, in the heat, the rain was quite refreshing. An…

I spent my third day in Vanuatu on a day-tour to nearby Lelepa Island, so named because lepers back in the day were sent to live in isolation in a cave there. We travelled around the island in a fishing boat driven by Moses and his sister-in-law, eighteen-year-old Matilda. They both …

THANK YOU to everyone who sends me postcards and help make my collection grow! I APPRECIATE IT SO MUCH! If you sent me a postcard and you don't see it in this blog, it means it's still on its way or I never received it because it got lost or someone stole it. Yeah, it happens.

Cruised from Sydney to New Caledonia and the New Hebrides aboard Rhapsody of the Seas.Great 10 days visiting islands that have not become too touristy yet.Very good places for snorkelling especially Isle of Pines and Vila (Hideaway Island). Ship excursions very expensive, but easy to arrange your own trips. Locals very friendly. Recommend visit to local village at Luganville (by taxi), war museum and cultural centre at Noumea. Isle of Pines still very unspoiled. Ship excellent.
