I love these great hardy wildflowers that looks so delicate...yet so strong. They grow up into the mountains, along alpine meadows, down hills...an awesome site. I love the smell..not to strong but delicate.
When the snow melts high in the mountains, the Avalanche Lilies come out. …

I thought I would put up a few photos that I have taken over the last couple of weekends of all the fall colors that I come upon. I took Tuggs out with me to go for a few walks. I am hardly ever home and the poor guy hardly gets out to see things...Soooooooooo...I figured I would take h…

These are some of my photos of East Sooke Park, along the coastal Trail. There are many trails in this wilderness park, (approx. 50 k's of trail)but this is one of my favorite hikes. It's about 10K in length. East Sooke Park is located on 1,422 hectares of land, with sooke basin on one side and Juan De Fuca Strait on the other. It is truly an amazing place, with ocean, fir forest, wildflower meadows, arbutus groves, and of course wildlife abounds everywhere you look.

This is again a beautiful place to hike. It is located on the southwestern shores of Vancouver Island. It is 47 kilometers long which consists of rain forest, shoreline, cradled between Port Renfrew and Jordan River. The rain forest has giant cedars, white sandy beaches.....great ocean swells and of course wildlife. A truly magical place to be. Wild and free....

These are just a few pictures that I have taken over the last couple of years. They are taken of the gardens at Hatley castle. There are three main gardens around Hatley Castle. Those are the Italian Gadens, which is quite formal, The Rose Garden...and smells divine (I always try …

Today was a particularly nasty wet cold winter's day,so I decided to drive to Sidney by the sea.
If you are ever coming to Victoria on Vancouver Island whether by sea or air, chances are you will drive by Sidney, this little town is worth a stop-- lots to see and do.
After a couple of hours it was time for lunch so I drove to the Sidecar Cafe which is about half way between Sidney and Victoria interesting place full of vintage motor cycles.
Here are a few photos from this trip.

We decided that it was about time we got to see some wildlife rather than spending all our time in cities and planned a small hike along the Juan de Fuca trail on Vancouver island. The trail is 47Km long through temperate rain forest with camp sites about every 7Km. It's a bit out of the way, camp …

They Call the tree Cheewhat. It is the largest living Red cedar tree in Canada. Located on Vancouver Island, close to Nitinat Lake. Quite a site to behold. The tree has a wood volume of nearly 450 cubic meters. Measures 64' 10" in circumference. I was there when they measured it. I could not see the top of this tree. Was great to actually see the tree and touch it.
Amazing!!!!! As to the age of this majestic giant...I am told it is approx. 3,300 years old. Way older than me :)

This place is one of the most ecologically diverse places on Vancouver Island. Old growth and temperate rain forest is home to some of the world's largest Sitka spruce trees. Measuring 95 meters, the Carmanah giant is said to be the world's largest living sitka spruce. Some of these trees located on the flood plain of the valley are said to have the greatest biomass of any place on earth.

The Cowichan River Footpath is an historic 20K trail that winds its way along the north and south side of the cowichan river, from Glenora to Skutz Falls. It was once used primarily by anglers, but now provides a great 20k park for hikers. So you can fish, hike, canoe, kayak and tube down this awesome river. If you park a vehicle at each end you have a great hike for the day. Lots to see and do. Just be prepared, backpack, water, food and a fishing rod if you like!

Now that I've moved to Vancouver I have been trying to check out at much of this beautiful city as possible. Although there's been a fair bit of rain (no surprises there), just about everywhere you look you get a stunning view. Just lovely!
