Touring a brandy distillery is a nice way to break up your wine tour while in Stellenbosch. Van Ryn's brandy was excellent (not that I know much about brandy in general) and they have won many awards including their 12 year old brandy which won "best in the world" for 2005.
You take a short tour of the distillery which includes some sort of brancy and juice concoction before and sampling afterwards. It was interesting to see how brandy is made from wine and you also get to see people building a traditional cedar barrel, something which many wineries/distilleries do not do today.
