Van Nam Hotel Jul 03, 2013
As we did not book hotel in advanced in Nha Trang, after the bus drop us somewhere around the city centre close to the beach, we just walk around the area and checked several hotels before settle with this place.
The hotel located around 50 meter in the alley way, with nice looking 3 storey high buildings and next to it also another bigger and expensive hotel. Outside the alleyway at the main street of this hotel, there are several budget hotels with smaller room and basic bathroom but double the price than this place.
I think the hotel location is really good. There are plenty of restaurants, bars and mini market around it. The beach and the popular museum on the beach are within 5 minutes walk from the hotel.
The reception was tended by the middle ages couple but unfortunately neither of them speaks English. However they understood that I was looking for a room and the lady owner showed me a couple of the rooms. It seems she showed me the same size rooms but the room on the second floor was without windows, whereas the room on the third floor has windows and views from the hallway toward the city and apartment buildings and more breezes and it feels more spacious.
Therefore I settle with the room on the third floor and asked if we could possible stay until late around 6 or 7pm at night time the next day. Interestingly, even they do not speak English, but they understand me very well. It does not create any problems; we just need to pay half day extra for it and it was not that expensive. So we settle for it and paid in advanced. I do not remember how much the total cost was, but it was very cheap compare with other hotel.
The room was spacious with one double bed and one single bed, 2 sofa and table in the room, cupboard, desk, television, fan and air condition.
The bathroom was very basic with wet shower where the bathroom floor get wet after shower. In addition to this, when we turn on air condition, the roof of the bathroom get wet as well. So, it was not pleasant to get cool water drip on the head and body when using the toilet.
We informed this problem to the hotel owner and they advised us to move to another room, but since we like this room more than the other, we stay in this room. An hour later, the male owner comes with another 2 workers who instantly remedy the problem.
We left the room and let them sort the problem.
When we come back, it seems the roof was okay and not wet anymore. Unfortunately after we turn on the air condition for several hours, the bathroom roof gets wet again.
At this stage, we just keep quiet and get on with it as it is only one night stay.
The hotel does not have elevator, the staircase was easy to navigate and wide. The daughter owner speaks English well and she informs us they are in the process of renovating and updating the hotel to three stars in the future.
We did our laundry at this hotel at very reasonable price. I would recommend this place to all budget travel for good night sleep as the bed was comfortable and very quite at night time. There was no breakfast in this hotel.
