If you are very close to the sea, you might think that any valley you saw was carrying a river towards the sea, only a short distance away. It might or it might not have a tidal estuary. Think again.

Think of a valley very high up, parallel to the coast (roughly) - without a river. Now, if you have not already, have a look at the pictures on the rather unusual website that seems to go in for substantial repetition of descriptions but is easily the most illustrative I have found with its photos.

There are numerous strangely shaped rocks marking the cliff top between you and the sea. Don't underestimate them - there are some serious climbs there - but you will find places suitable for a relatively easy scramble.

I don't know whether the wild (or feral?) goats often to be seen are unique in England but I don't know of any other place that has them.
