Vale of Rheidol Railway Aberystwth Feb 21, 2018
The steam train railway of the Vale of Rheidol Railway, starts from just behind Aberystwth main rail station. The narrow gauge line runs to Devils Bridge, climbing 700 ft (200m),in the Cambrian mountains, Wales UK. The gauge is 603m ( nearly 2ft). The length of the route is 19km (nearly 12 mile). The train travels through woodlands, climbing to Devils Bridge in the mountains. It has fully restored coal fired locomotives and vintage carriages, which were built by Great Western Railway in the 1920s. The railway opened in December 1902, since 1989 has been run by a charity, maintaining its heritage. It was bought from British Railways, when BR was getting rid of lines. There is a leaflet with train times that can be seen on line. WWW . At Devils Bridge station {Pontarfynach}, is a family run cafe called Two Hoots. The walk to Devils Bridge passes the Hafod Hotel. The Devil Bridge has a short walk called the Punch Bowl and a longer walk Waterfalls and Nature Trail. Both have steep steps. There is a small admission charge.---There is a souveneir shop in the ticket office of the railway at Devils Bridge and Aberystwth.----There are modern worksheds to help keep the Vale of Rheidolrailway run well
