Vale de Carros Albufeira Reviews

Out in the sticks (but that's not a bad thing) May 23, 2011
Vale de Carros is halfway between Albufeira and Vilamour. It's near a four star hotel (Alpinus) and a small supermarket, a few restaurants, ... in short, there are just enough touristy facilities nearby. It's about a 20 minutes walk from the Falesia beach, which is a stunning sandy beach with red sandy cliffs all the way to Vilamour. It's also pleasantly uncrowded. Along the beach, you can walk to Vilamour (it took me the better part of two hours, but I walk quite slow on sand).

I would not recommend walking to or from Albufeira town centre - it took me two hours and the walk is neither scenic nor interesting.

Re: the apartments themselves. Well-equipped, with a small kitchenette. Cleaners a few times a week. A fridge with a small freezer compartment. A pool, balconies, places to lounge and enjoy the sun. Nothing to complain about at all, and excellent value for money.

There is no wifi, and the internet connection in the lobby did not work for a single day while I was there (with constant blame on the internet provider), so I would not count on it. There is a bar with a working coin-operated internet connection opposite the apartments (1 Euro for 12 minutes).

All in all, I enjoyed my stay. It was not in the tacky, loud, crowdy centre of Albufeira, but that was a bonus rather than a disadvantage. Falesia beach is by far more attractive than Albufeira's or Vilamour's beaches, and several kilometres long. That said, public transport is quite rare (roughly hourly, but with the odd two hour break in there), so it could end up costing you a bit of taxi-money if you don't walk or know the bus timetables well...
