The Valamar Lacroma Dubrovnik - Comfortable Sep 13, 2017
After a very busy day, we finally arrived and settled into our hotel in Dubrovnik. The 4-Star Valamar Lacroma Hotel located in the Babin Kuk section on the Lapad Peninsula is well away from the historic center of Dubrovnik which some might see as a negative. However, the Valamar Lacroma Hotel still has much to offer in the way of lovely setting and amenities. It is a sprawling, modern hotel surrounded by pine trees, and overlooks the blue sea and the Elaphite Islands. It is within walking distance of several beaches great for exploring.

Our hotel room #3028 was quite a long way from all the hotel’s amenities, but that hardly mattered since we were happy when we found that it had a partial ocean view! Our room was not luxurious but had 2 comfortable beds with good linens, a desk with chair, small table and chair, flat-screen TV, mini-fridge and safe. The bathroom was large and well stocked with towels and toiletries. Thankfully the room was air-conditioned which was very appreciated considering Dubrovnik was already quite hot and humid though it was only early May when we were staying there. The nice size balcony with a small table and 2 chairs was the perfect place to catch the evening breezes and a cool drink.

Other hotel amenities included a spacious outdoor pool, an indoor pool, and luxury services and treatments in the Ragusa Spa Wellness center. There are a couple of gift shops off the lobby, but they did not offer anything I wanted or needed, and also looked quite expensive, so I did not take advantage of them. Parking onsite is available for an extra charge, but as we were with a group, we did not have need of parking. It is advantage that a local bus does stop across the street from the hotel should you need it for transportation going into or coming from the old city area. The cost is approximately 12 Kuna one way if the ticket is not purchased in advance.

An extensive and excellent buffet breakfast was available from 7 – 10am in the Buffet Show-Cooking Restaurant and a buffet dinner is offered here each evening as well. Because we were with a tour, our breakfasts were included as was dinner one evening. We chose to have dinner here the second night also, and the charge was a very reasonable US$20 though this was a discounted price due to us staying here with a tour group. Nearly anything you could want was on the buffet, and dessert is included with the buffet dinner as were beverages of water, coffee, and tea. Wine was available for an extra charge. We were very satisfied with all our meals here.

As an alternative, the Langusto Restaurant serves fine Mediterranean cuisine and top shelf wines with seating on the outdoor terrace – seems a great place for special occasions. It is open from 6 – 11 pm. There are no fewer than 4 bars (2 of which open upon request only) at the Lacroma ranging from the Orsula Lobby Bar where you can also get your morning coffee (open 8am to midnight), to the casual Onofrio Pool Bar which in addition to drinks you can also order a light meal. I think it is a bonus that the hotel offers beverage packages starting at €21 per person, per day --– well this is a resort!

We had no real complaints with the hotel other than the first day we arrived, it took several hours for our luggage to arrive at our room.
