Valais is a canton in the south-west of Switzerland. The highest mountains of Switzerland are located in this canton (Dufourspitze 4634m, Dom 4545m, the famous Matterhorn 4478m and so on). Because of the surrounding mountains the climate in Valais is very dry. Already in the Middle Ages the people built aqueducts.
