Best place to have lunch at Napa Valley Apr 01, 2011
We enjoyed a lot our visit to this winery. They have everything you need to spend a very good time. It is not a typical winery, actually I would consider it a picnic-restaurant more than a winery, altough inside they have wine tasting.

Right next to the picnic area they have a huge building. Right when you enter you will find a deli store where you can get anything you need to do your picnic. Food was awesome and they had good prices. Once you get all the stuff you need, you can move to the next room. Right in the middle you and on the sides you will find tons os waiters doing wine tasting. It only cost $10 to try up to 6 wines. They had another offer which cost $5 but then you were not able to taste premium wines.

Right where you do the wine tasting, you will also find tons of souvenirs and wine related products! I bought tons of things there! You pay when you leave the building and then you have a big feast in the garden. You can even buy a bottle of wine and have while you eat and sunbathe!

No doubt it is a place where I would recommend you to have lunch.

Thought I had to include a review of the V. Sattui Winery since it is my favorite! Their wines cannot be purchased anywhere except direct from the vineyard. I've been a Cellar Club member for a number of years now and within the past year, managed to upgrade to a lifetime Gold Club Member (one time 5 case purchase).

To be a Cellar Club member, you either need to belong to their wine of the month club or purchase a case over the course of the year. This will allow you access to the downstairs cellar club where Jay, the Manger is now back. All the staff at Sattui are great, but Jay has always been super popular with the members and I was thrilled to see he was back when we were there last month.

Sattui has a number of events throughout the year, including the Harvest Ball in the fall which is a black tie event. I've always wanted to go but never made it due to scheduling conflicts or the event being sold out the one time I was able to go! I've been to their Tax Relief Party and the Winter Barrel Tasting is right around the corner!

All their wines are great, but several of my favorites are: Duarte Old Vine Zinfandel (no longer available due to Duarte selling off their vineyard for a condo project), Gamay Rouge, California Madeira, Angelica, Morisoli and Preston Cabs, and their Port.

Erin, you are one dedicated and classy wino :-) When I look at your pics in the cellar, it makes me recall the key phrase from a song I co-wrote years ago, "Let's open up the bar and throw away the key!" :-D

If you ever have a chance to go to napa and visit a vineyard. This one is perfect for the sole visit. If you don't have time for a Valley tour this vineyard had the nicest deli were it is so easy to grab a nice well made salad or sandwich a bottle of their wine and sit out on the lawn. I would say stay away for the weekends and try a weekday visit the crowds are smaller.

The V. Sattui Winery is probably one of the largest wineries in the area, and the tasting room easily accomodates over 50 people. Since Angie and I were wine tasting newbies, this was the perfect place for us to start out in, since any embarassing errors we made would be absorbed by the bustle of the crowd. Basically, you just find an open place at the wine bar and you will be given a 6 different types of wine to sample, entirely for free.Despite the rather touristy atmosphere, the staff is friendly, the wine is good, and the tastings are free, so this is definitely a worthwhile place to visit. One of my favorite wines here was the "Gamay Rouge", a rose-colored wine that tastes like strawberries and cherries. The "Angelica", a dessert wine which is a combination of Muscat and Brandy, was also amazing.

This is actually one of the best vineyards in Napa. Great place to start. They are one of the smaller production vineyards and you cannot buy their wine anywhere but the vineyard itself. It's been my favorite vineyard for years and if you have the opportunity to taste in the cellar or with a reserve member, the older wines are incredible. Darryl Sattui just added a new vineyard up in St. Helena which I have not checked out yet but even smaller production wines. Hopefully I will go when I get back home in a couple weeks!!
