Authentic autumn atmosphere Nov 11, 2009
Malmedy is one of the most beautiful towns in the Ardennes. The little village center near the old cathedral breaths the atmosphere of the woods and hills surrounding it. The Ardennes are especially wonderful in the autumn, because the hills are coloured red by the trees and bushes and the cold is often joined by a smooth autumn sun. After a day of hiking or biking through the woods, there is no place in town more suitable then  Vî Mâm'dî. The name of this restaurant is Ardennes-French meaning Life in Malmedy.

The wonderful old interiour of the restaurant and the relics of Malmedy life on the walls create an atmosphere that makes you feel like you're eating at home with the locals. The restaurant specialises in Belgian food, mostly from the Ardennes, but also from the rest of Belgium. In autumn, a lot of dishes with wild boar, deer and hare are added to the menu. Don't be suprised if you find the hail bullet that killed your supper in the meat you're eating: these are left in if they're too deep to find to spare the look of the meat. If you're walking through the Ardennes in autumn, you constantly hear shots from hunters, so you know the meat is local and fresh.

The restaurant might be a bit expensive for travelers on a budget (see the menu at the website for prices), but the money is absolutely worth it. The dishes look beautiful and you will experience tasts you've never experienced before, even with a simpel thing like a sprout. Wine sippers are also in the right place, with a head waiter knowing exactly which wine fits your meal.
