V-Cafe Southport Reviews
Could be Better Apr 06, 2013
We met in the reception area at 2.30pm for dining at 3pm, even though we had been advised to book it was quite quiet today with it being Grand National day and we were seated quickly. First disappointment was the fact that there was no menu for 'afternoon tea' Rather strange we thought considering we were in a 4* hotel. The waitress came over and dealt with our afternoon tea request - next disappointment, the choices of tea - Earl Grey or English Breakfast tea, however, they did make the effort to provide Jude with a lemon tea.
We had a wait of 20 minutes or so before being served and on first impressions it was a tad disappointing - the waitress brought over two cake stands (even though there was three of us!!!) one stand was crammed with food for two and the other looked rather sparsly filled for one.
So what exactly did we get for our £10.95 per person - a small pot of tea (about 1 1/2 cups to be precise) four finger sandwiches which consisted of one egg mayonnaise, one salmon, one ham and one prawn, additionally there was a side garnish of a few salad leaves and a small helping of vegetable crisps.
This was followed by one scone each with a tiny ramakin of strawberry jam and another tiny ramakin of cream. This scone did not have the 'homemade' look about it and neither did the four small cakes which were also presented to us.
All in all a tad disappointing given the location within a prestigious hotel.
