Uzbekistan travel budget Jan 06, 2011
Country: Uzbekistan

Period visited: 2010 - 7 nights

Visa cost: 80 Euro + LOI / 14 days

Budget per day: 55 Euro

Actual per day: 37.5 Euro

Why so cheap?

Uzbekistan was one of the countries which were surprisingly good value. Food, alcohol and accommodation (B&B's) are quite cheap and very good value. Transport around the country is mostly shared taxi, but I only travelled Khiva - Bukhara this way. Bukhara - Tashkent - Samarkand I travelled by train (which was a bargain) and Samarkand to Tajikistan border I hitched a ride with two guys travelling by car. Just too bad the visa is so darn expensive.

Can it be cheaper?

Don't think so. If your Russian is good then you could perhaps bargain harder on shared taxis. And if you're French your visa will be significantly cheaper, for some reason.

Average costs:

Food & Drinks:

Beer: €1 or less

Espresso: €1.50 (Tashkent)

Meal: €5

Accommodation:

Single room: €7.50-€15 (B&B) to €22 (hotel in Tashkent)
