Ooooh I was sooo happy to get to see RJ and Sal this weekend! We planned it under a week ago, but somehow within that week I got 2 huge homework assignments in really hard Econ classes and then was asked to plan the first ever Engineering Design Challenge for the nonprofit I work with. I was exhaus…

Is there anything truly more alluring than the sensation of arriving at the airport? Oh, sure, there are countless other titillating experiences that appeal to our senses; but in the context of travel the airport is our first small step into the larger world around us. It’s a little l…

After 5 weeks out here, I'm finally on my way home. On the drive from Wendover to the airport in Salt Lake City I was soaking up the scenery, knowing it might be a long time before I return. The hills were reflected in the salty ponds along the ditch. The fence running through the…

Had a great visit out west, mostly to southern Utah. Visited many national and state parks. I think my favorites were Zion NP and Kodachrome SP, though it is tough to choose. Anyway, I don't need to go to Europe now because all the Europeans were over here :). I'd estimate 80% or more of the people in the national parks were from Europe (even more when you got on the trails). Met many great people from all over. This is a beautiful part of the world. Enjoy the pictures!

After our late evening ride through Arches the day before, we knew a little about the Park and what we wanted to see. We decided to try and get a rather early start, so we ate a light breakfast and checked out of our motel. There was much to experience before we left…

Pete was seriously injured in an hanggliding accident a couple of years ago. Early on there was a question as to whether or not he would walk again. Shattered pelvis really messes with walking. So when we were invited to his 40something birthday party at Bear Lake I really didn't think it would be …

Well, finally I was ready to resume my travels after getting restocked and motivated.
This leg had me go up through St George, Utah, and then into Zion National Park. I drove straight through the Park and in the east end came to a low narrow tunnel just before you exit. I had to pay an extra…

At the southern edge of Zion National Park is this little tourist town there for only one reason and that is to serve the people who come to visit the park. Hotel/Motels, restaurants, shops and entertainment spots line the little two lane road that is Springdale. There are side streets where …

Great place to visit while in Utah, although it was a very long walk just to get to the actual canyon and back. Beware of rattle snakes and lots of dead rabbits and other small animals!

We only hiked 5 miles today and it was relatively level (about time!). The first of the 3 places we went was another slot canyon 8 miles down a single lane dirt road and then hiking down a dry wash for 2 more miles into a canyon only 2 feet wide. Th…
