The flight to Punta del Este from Buenos Aires Aeroparque Nacional took all of 35 minutes. My friend Juanpi and I took longer lining up in immigration (40 minutes) and waiting for the plane to take off (one hour).
It was a quick 10-minute taxi ride from the airport to Hotel Casapueblo in Pun…

Today we had to drive from Colonia to Montevideo, but first we set off in the opposite direction. Steve and I wanted to check out Aarón de Anchorena, a National Park just 30km on the other side of Colonia. As we got near the park it became clear to both of us that we had somehow been transported t…

So, it's a good job that the archatecture ( that really doesn't look right, but oh well I'm too old for spelling bees anyway !!!! ) of this city isn't up to B.A's standard because if you take your eyes off the pavement for more than a few seconds you're likely to step into a steaming mound of doggy…

Maria and I took the Buque Bus to Uruguay. The Buque Bus is a glamorous boat that travels between Argentina and Uruguay. Once we arrived in Montevideo, the capitol of Uruguay, we took a 5 hour busride to Punta del Este. Unfortunately, we were visiting Punta del Este during th…

Clean and fun crowd hostel, wild pubcrawl in Buenos Aires. Then fly to Uruguay for two nights. Driving around the costal road from Montevideo to Punta Del Este, where jetsetters from Argentina and Brazil come in for summer months and party, party, party. Punta del Este is like a glamorous resort with impressive modern high rise hotels and appartment blocks right on the beach front.

We slept in until a few minutes before 10am, and then raced downstairs to try out the Hotel Ajax complimentary breakfast buffet. We were pretty excited, but we soon understood why it's free. Quite a bit of food - eggs, fruit, cereal, meat, cheese, pastries, juices - but it was…

Things in Montevideo are coming to a close. Yesterday, I bought my bus ticket to Santa Fe, Argentina (an arbitrary choice influenced by the bus schedule rather than any particular knowledge of the place) and today, I had my last Spanish class.
I have mixed feelings about leaving Montevideo. On one…

This trip started as a day dream. Now it's real but the dream still has to remain. Every now and then reality comes down a little too hard; Roadkill, accidents and bad wheather can wash away the magic at times, leaveing us just a very long road home. Mostly though the beauty and freedom of thi…

I took the slow ferry over to Colonia which takes 3 hours to save a bit of cash. It costs just under $100 AR for a single journey there with the company Buquebus. They offer a really well organised service over to Uruguay.
I was blown away by how beautiful Colonia was. Its incredibly small in comp…

Buenos Aires is one of those cities where you can see the main tourist sights in 2-3 days. A lot of travellers hang around for a lot longer, but that is usually to take an extensive Spanish course or tango lessons, for which BsAs is the place to be. If you are not into those things, or simply do no…

Buquebus ferry from Buenos Aires to Colonia del Sacremento, Uruguay. Nice way to travel, about A$95 (£18).
Colonia is a beautiful little town on the coast, just a shame I was here in winter as today it was about 10 degrees. Not too bad when the sun was out, but the wind was quite bit…
