Uruapan Overview

Uruapan is a city about located about 120 kms from the Michoacan State capital of Morelia. From Morelia, you pass through the mountains in Patzcuaro.

The area is known for avocados, oranges and grapefruit.

The weather is hot during much of the day but very chilly during the winter months.

During Holy Week, more than 100,000 craftspeople and artisans from over 200 local communities come and sell their goods at the main plaza. Fire-blackened storage urns,
pineapple pottery, hand-worked copper, textiles, guitars, and carved wood crafts can be found here.

Some attractions are: La Capilla de la Magdalena (Chapel of the Magdalene), La Huatapera and Eduardo Ruiz National Park (Rio Cupatitzio).
