Urmia Vacation Guide

Being the capital of northwestern province of West Azerbaijan, Urmia is located in the shores of Urmia Lake. Having an altitude of 1300 m, it has mild summers and cold winters. Urmia is ethnically diverse. The majority of people are of Azerbaijani descent and speak Azerbaijani Turkish, an Ural-Altaic language. Although other ethnic groups like Kurds, Armenians and Assyrians live in the city, they are in minority and Azerbaijani language and culture is dominant.

The most remarkable feature of Urmia is Urmia Lake, a salty lake which is located a few miles east of the city. You need not know how to swim there since you will float on the water due to high levels of salt in this lake.
