Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre Dec 21, 2009
The Upright Citizens Brigade was founded by Matt Besser, Amy Poehler, Ian Roberts and Matt Walsh. The four members produced their own sketch show Upright Citizens Brigade for three seasons on Comedy Central in 1998-2000.

The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre is easily the best comedy theatre in Los Angeles offering cheap shows ($8 max + B.Y.O.B.) seven nights a week. Reservations are highly recommended and seating is on a first-come first-serve basis (nightly lines stretch down the sidewalk).

The theatre offers a variety of shows ranging from improv, sketch, storytelling, musical acts, stand-up and sometimes material that may not be easily classifiable. However, it is all comedy.

It's not unusual to spot many of America's top comedians hanging out or performing at the Theatre including Zach Galifianakis, Paul Rust, Paul Scheer, Charlyne Yi, Aziz Ansari, David Cross, Sarah Silverman, etc. Even Robin Williams or Will Ferrell will make time for an occasional drop-in performance.

I highly recommend checking out Monday's Harold night (an 30-minute improv performance introduced by comedy legend Del Close), Tuesday's Comedy Death Ray (the best night in alternative stand-up and character bits), Wednesday's Facebook Show (an improv performance based off two audience members Facebook profiles), Thursday's Last Day of School and Convoy show and, of course, Saturday's ASSSSCAT, UCB's signature show.

Either $5 or $8, shows are cheap. You may bring your own beer/wine/liquor, which is a major plus for most travelers. UCB is close to several great restaurants and bars, which makes for a complete evening.
