Amazing Landscape Feb 10, 2014
Upper Rock Nature Reserve was once a military area with tremendous strategic importance. Since 1993, it is a nature reserve and an amazing hiking area. However, it is also possible to ride a bus or a cable car to the highest viewpoint. Most roads are paved as they were once used for military purposes, but some medieval hiking trails are quite rough.

You need to pay an entrance fee: 50 pence for a walking permit and 10 British pounds for a ticket that includes all attractions: Moorish Castle, St. Michael's Cave and the tunnels which hosted British soldiers during World War II. If you pay with Euros, which is possible, you will have to pay more, e.g. one Euro instead of 50 pence.

This nature reserve is populated by monkeys - they are usually shy as cats unless they are fed with food, which is prohibited.
