Founded in the twelfth century, the university in Salamanca is the oldest institution of its kind in Spain. Quite a few students are rather distinguished from here, but the most internationally known figure must be Miguel de Cervantes. The buildings that make up the university are rather nice to wander through, including the university library. I think the university in Salamanca makes the city a very special place; a lot of students from across the country are here because of this and it makes the place very exciting and diverse. Whether you’re a fan of the architecture or the vibrant student atmosphere, the university is definitely something that defines Salamanca very well.
