We landed, debarked and collected our baggage uneventfully. I called my sister Laura to let her know we arrived, she works at The Frenchmans Reef Marriot as an events coordinator. She left work to come meet us and lead us back to her hotel. I had reserved a Jeep Liberty for the week from Discount Car Rental, and I called them next to come pick us up. We only waited about 15 minutes, before they both arrived. Laura followed us back to the rental place, ...

Land! I was up on deck to spot the first sight of the Virgin Islands at 8:30 a.m. Off to starboard--Savana Island perhaps. Whatever it was, it was shrouded in mist. I hopped this did not bode ill for weather this day. Soon, I sighted the western tip of St. Thomas to port.
Carnival Glory slid gently up to the wharf. Arriving in the U.S. Virgin Islands, we had to clear U.S. Customs first. There was a long line for processing, but soon we were on the dock. We had agin booked a Carni...

Carnival Miracle arrived at St. Thomas in the early morning. We had also visited St. Thomas on our cruise last summer. Then, we we saw Magens Bay, the scenic overlooks, Blackbeard's Castle (Skytsborg), and the historic houses along The 99 Steps. (See my June 2007 St. Thomas/Charlotte Amalie blogs.) This year, the family wanted to focus on Charlotte Amalie and doing some shopping. After disembarking at the West Indian Company pier, we went to the taxi stand at Havensight M...

Ah, the US Virgin Islands, my favorite tropical escape. This is my second visit to the spectacular island of St. Thomas. The last time we visited we took the historic island tour (which was fantastic!) so we didn't feel guilty about hopping on a water taxi headed for St. John. St. John is only 12 miles away and is a 30-minute boat ride away.
A vast majority of the island is protected by the National Park service so massive resorts and tourist traps have not tainted the landscape. Our first s...

Today is our only day with no port of call, as we travel between the US Virgin Islands and Aruba. The cruise ship operators understand that this long time between ports gives potential for quite contemplation and spending time with loved ones, so they try to fill in those gaps with non-stop stimulation. There is a theatre, two movie cinemas, a casino, two pools, a cyber golf course, a mini-golf course, a jogging track, several spas, a basketball court, a library, a nightclub, several bars, an...

OUr first stop of the cruise is the US Virgin Island. The islands lured more foreign nation than any other territory. The flags of six countries have flown over the islands. The capital of St. Thomas is Charlotte Amalie. The total island population is 56,000. The United States dollar is the official currency.

Our first trip beyond the realms (or lack there) of the US. The island is beautiful, and a bit unexpecting. However miserable the encounter at the resort may have been, we absolutely sustained unimaginable excitement under the water. The locals were... Were beyond our belief. Living far below what we here in the states would consider poverty, yet among the sincerest of happy people that I have ever seen! If traveling to the islands, the best advice... Stay away from the resort as much as poss...

Today started at 4am because I had to get to the airport to catch my 6am flight. The flight was rather uneventful and I slept the whole way. I got off in Miami in concourse D and took the tram to my connecting flight in concourse E. I sit down to find out that my gate has changed so I hop back on the tram and went back to concourse D. I found myself a spot on the floor and started reading my book when they announce that my gate has changed again so it was back to conco...

13.10.207 Arrival in St. Thomas
Sorry that I didn’t wrote anything in a while, but I was kind of busy. On this cruise we are having a lot of days in the ports and obviously I am going out and enjoy my day instead of spending my time in front of my PC.
Since the last entry we have been to St. Johns on Antigua and to Virgin Gorda, which belongs to the British Virgin Islands.
On Antigua we all went out again to have a nice lunch in one of the restaurants that are dir...

The Island is mostly a nature preserve and the locals really take care of this island. It's very clean, friendly and a must for he caribbean desinations. Don't waste your time with St. Thomas... yuk! No cruise boats stop here and no matter where you stay, it's quite at night. I actually recorded the sounds from our deck and it's like being in a rainforest! Rent a car and hit every bay on the island, you'll be glad you did!
