Umaid Bhawan Palace Jodhpur Reviews
Chittar palace Jul 30, 2013
The palace was built by Maharaja Umaid Singh, 37th Rathore ruler of Jodhpur between 1929 and 1943 on a hill. The architects was Mr H V Lancaster and J R Lodge. It was built as a drought relief measure, just around 70 years old it is the youngest palace of its kind in the world, with 347 rooms it is one of the largest private residences in the world, it has been built by interlocking of stones without any cement or mortar and it is made of local Chittar stones so it is also called Chittar palace by locals.
This enormous palace is now a part luxury hotel, part museum, part home to present Maharaja(King). Non-residents can only see the exterior and the museum, but even this is quite an experience.
There is a vintage car collection outside which worth to see. Its a marvelous work of architecture and museum gives you glimpses of the Royals of Jodhpur.
The present entry of palace museum is Rs 60(10$) for foreigners and Rs 30 for Indians which includes still camera charges.
