Ulysses Grant Memorial Washington Reviews
One of the lesser known Monuments May 21, 2010
This monument sits closest to the U.S. Capital Building and faces west towards the Lincoln Memorial at the other end of the National Mall. It is a 252 foot by 71 foot Vermont marble monument divided into three areas. The tall center features General Grant on his war horse, named Cincinnati. On one side is a sculpture of an artillery group and the other side is a cavalry group. Also surrounding Grant are four smaller lions in repose guarding the U.S. flag and the flags of the Army. All of the sculptures are bronze. You can walk up onto the Memorial and take pictures and enjoy the detail of the work.
