One of the two major landmarks within the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, along with Kata Tjuta. Uluru is an enormous monolith that rises nearly 350 metres above the flat plains. It is one of the most spectacular icons of Australia.
The site is sacred to the Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara, and is the centre of many important Tjukurpa legends (also known as dreamtime legends). From 1872 to 1993 Uluru was also known as Ayers Rock, named by Ernest Giles in honour of Chief Secretary of South Australia, Sir Henry Ayers. In 1993 the original aboriginal name was recognised, resulting in a dual naming policy. The local aboriginal people are the official custodians of Uluru. They encourage travellers to visit, but request that the site is treated with respect, that the rock itself is not climbed, and that certain sites around Uluru are not photographed.

Uluru, Australia -› Kata Tjuta, Australia -› ...
Our second day
in the Northern Territory
was also spent at Uluru. The sunrise was beautiful. We sat next to each other
with hot milo and biscuits, enjoying the atmosphere and each other's company,
as Uluru slowly changed to a vivid red colour with the change in light.
After the sunrise we went on a cultural tour and guide around Uluru. We hopped
off the bus and walked along a small creek at the base of Uluru (like a moat)
to a grotto with Rainbow honeyeaters. I was just saying to L...

We left quite early on this trip as we wanted to make the most of
our next accommodation. To stay at the resort of Yulara near Uluru
(Ayers Rock) isn’t cheap, the room we had cost just over $450, but when
you have a 500 kilometre journey there it’s not like you have much of a
choice but to stay. Anyway, Jason was also coming so off we drove at
6am, the Smith Family in one car and Jason in his, a very nice 2003
Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo. The nil speed limits really suit Jason’s Car,

At first I didn't intend to walk around Uluru. The bus stoped at the park at the west of Uluru so the light was not so nice for photography. I just tried to find the right place for the nice photo, so I started to walk and walked and walked.
I had no idea how far I had walked, it seemed like I was still hang over (the night before walking, I had too much wine, both white and red-maybe about 3 litres;), when I realized I knew I could not go back so just kept walking and walking.
Around U...

We, my travelmate Wilma and I, made plans together to see a lot of Australia. The country is so big that we decided to see only a few parts of it. We started in Hong Kong (stop-over), Saw Darwin, Uluru, Cape york to Cairns, Great barrier reef and drove along the coast to Brisbane.
