Uis Vacation Guide
Uis is a very small town located in the desert region, Damaraland, in Namibia. A mining town, Tin was mined in the Uis region since the early 1900's and the town was established in 1958 as a mine workers residence. When approaching Uis, you will see a huge white mountain. This is the old mine dump for processed tin ore.
There is not a whole lot in Uis: a small supermarket, White Lady guesthouse and a gas/petrol station. At the petrol station, you will likely be approached and asked to buy "gems" from the locals, as there are many lovely rocks and crystals in this area.
