Uhuru Park May 04, 2011
Uhuru Park is a recently opened outdoor collection of kiosks offering light meals. There are several different kiosks to choose from although the variety of offerings is not too different between each one. Traditional breakfast items such as chai (milk tea) and chapati or maandazi (a Swahili doughnut), lunch items such as soups, chicken and chips or chipsi mayai (egg with fried potatoes in it)are the standard fare. Light bites such as popcorn and peanuts are available also. The seating is in a grassy field with tables with umbrellas providing welcome shade. There are also some picnic tables and some park benches available. The entire area will eventually be the first real park in Moshi and looks to have great promise. The food and drink (no alcohol offered) prices are inexpensive. The park is located next to a large Lutheran Church and is quite popular on Sunday afternoons. It is very family friendly and a safe environment (a single controlled entrance with a low profile security guard) and will eventually have playground equipment. It is a nice ,clean and affordable choice for a meal or snack and it has enough space that you can lounge there for hours with a good book.
