Udai Haveli Guest House Udaipur Reviews
Cosy and comfortable...but average service Apr 04, 2015
Enviably close to the Daiji footbridge – which connects Udaipur’s centre to the Hanuman Ghat area – as well as its main sights and shops, Udai Haveli certainly gets some things right. The rooms are pleasant and comfortable, and the family who run it are courteous…almost a little disconcertingly so, in fact, when the 10 year old daughter greeted me with a ‘can I help you, sir?’
Yet, it’s peculiarly lacking in atmosphere. It may be something to do with it being off a relatively quiet side street, which is normally a good thing, or the way its set up somewhat restricting opportunities to connect with fellow travellers. There’s also no reception desk to speak of, and the family are not always around to help you if you need it. I also had to ask for things that every other place I stayed at in India (and, for the most part, elsewhere too) gave as standard, such as breakfast times, the WiFi password etc. Little things, perhaps, but they add up to create the impression that customer service isn’t the best.
A decent place, then, with reasonable room rates, but I’m sure there are better options in Udaipur.
