The USS Lexington CV-16 is located in Corpus Christi, Texas. This ship is the fifth US Navy ship named in honor of the Revolutionary War Battle of Lexington.

The ship is moored in a nice beach area of Corpus Christi, Texas so it is easy to visit and tour the ship and then have some fun beach time afterwards. There is also some displays of Navy jets on the beach side. I really enjoyed this museum and will return again.

Take a look at the link below for a detailed historical account of the ships long history. The ship was involved in many war and hostile actions with nations the US is now friendly with so I would rather leave that part of history to those who definitely want to read about it.

This is a first class authentic floating museum and I recommend it to anyone especially naval history fans.

I toured the USS Midway (CV-41) in San Diego last year. Interesting museums these air craft carriers make. Here where I live in VA they recently retired the USS Enterprise (CVN-65; 'Big-E'). They opened it for touring before it was to be dismantled, but tickets were limited and went fast, so alas I didn't get to tour it. : (

This Essex-class aircraft carrier that served in World War II is permanently anchored in Corpus Christi Bay as a museum open to the public. I visited on a business trip for our company's annual safety meeting. You can wander the ship as a self-guided tour through the hanger, gallery, flight deck and various lower decks. The flight deck has aircraft from several different eras and also affords great views of Corpus Christi Bay. There is a movie theater that shows various military history and aviation movies as well as a flight simulator.
