U & Me Boutique Room, Siem Reap Reviews
Simple and Affortable Boutique Hotel Dec 09, 2012
The U & Me is a small boutique type hotel located just outside the hustle and bustle of Siem Reap city and very close to the Angkor Wat Archeological park.
This hotel is on the same road that leads to the Angkor Wat complex, which makes this hotel very convenient to commute to the temple attractions. From the hotel, it only takes about 10mins to Angkor Wat and about 15mins to the popular pub street and Angkor night market. I paid about $23/night for a deluxe room with double beds, no breakfast was provided.
From the Siem Reap bus station it takes about 20mins to arrive at this hotel by Tuk Tuk for a charge of $3. This hotel was not known to many, and the driver was not aware of this place and had some difficulty in locating. The location is not bad or isolated, it is just a new hotel that many were not aware of.
The hotel is a small 2 storied building and has an attached SPA and massage services. There is nothing fancy about this hotel, but the services were very good.
The staff seemed to be very friendly and helpful and they offered wet towel and welcome drink during check-in. The lobby looked quite small, but it was traditionally decorated and well kept. This hotel offers massage and SPA on the lobby floor by the hotel entrance. Complimentary tea/coffee were available next to the lobby area and one thing I did not like is that they don't have cream/milk for coffee, however the herbal type hot green was fantastic and was available all the time. The staff was also pleased to bring the tea to the room when needed.
All rooms were located upstairs and there is no elevator, however, the staff assisted to with luggage to the room.
The room I was given was a reasonably sized for 2 double beds with big sized windows behind the beds. There was nothing special about the room view as it was just overlooking an unoccupied land area.
The room lighting was not bad and it was equipped with dimmable ceiling lights. There were no floor lamps or bed side lamps which was little strange to me!
The room included amenities such as an air conditioner, dresser table, comfortable beds, sheets, nice pillows and a side table, free wi-fi but no TV, mini fridge or a telephone! Enough Toiletries, bath and hand towels were provided and were restocked everyday during the daily room service.
The bathroom was simple but clean with a window for the natural light. The standup shower area was small and a shower curtain divided it from the toilet area. No toilet paper roll was provided, but toilet hose spray was available for the use and some square shaped papers were stacked in a small wooden box by the sink. Though I had problems with hot water initially, the hotel took care of it immediately and it wasn't a problem later!
This hotel does not have a restaurant or food service and I did not see any restaurants nearby. But a short walk or short tuk tuk ride will get to many food stalls and restaurants. Angkor night market has plenty of places to eat inexpensive Khmer and other international food! The hotel provides a free Tuk Tuk drop-off to Angkor Night martket and other nearby areas and a pick-up can be arranged with the driver for just $2.
Overall, I would say this hotel is nothing fancy or just simple, but I liked for what I paid for. It is not bad for a short stay, though it is little away from the most happening spot. Just as a side note, there are few nicer and upscale hotels located several blocks ahead of this hotel closer to shops, restaurants and Angkor National museum.
