U Kucharzy Warsaw Reviews
Great traditional Polish food and close to city center Aug 03, 2013
The u Kucharzy restaurant is located close to the Hotel Bristol on the Royal Mile. I had been at this restaurant once before two years earlier and I therefore knew that they serve the meanest tartar steak in the city, We managed to get a table even though we had not booked and I naturally went for the for the tartar as a starter, actually we all did. Shortly after one of the chefs arrived at the table with a kitchen wagon and started to cut up a steak into small pieces so no one were larger than a salmon egg. He mixed it with onions, capers and some salt and pepper.
The u Kucharzy is a quite large and popular restaurant that focuses on Polish food in a modern version. There is often a jazz band playing near the bar at the entrance, and there is a quite lively atmosphere. There are both high and low tables but most of them are quite traditional decorated with white cloth on the table and candlelight. The waiters are very competent and service minded and they will take good care of you.
As a main course I choose duck with potatoes and cabbage, the dish was very far away from the summer weather outside the restaurant. I felt like I was served a dish suited for Christmas evening but it tasted really good even though it was quite heavy.
