Twyfelfontein Lodge Reviews
Confortable lodge in desert elephant country Mar 03, 2008
Twyfelfontein Lodge is located north of the Brandberg Mountains. It is along an itinerary often used by tours to go from Swakopmund to Etosha Game Reserve so it can be very busy during peak season. I was there in early March and was able to stay even without an advance booking.
Be warned that the dirt roads in the area can be pretty bad, and depending on the season you might have to drive across rivers. But if you are stuck in Huab River the staff from the hotel can come to your rescue with one of their large 4x4 trucks.
I am always impressed by the comfort you can find in these remote lodges. It is the perfect place where to stay to go and visit the rock paintings nearby, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During the dry winter months, if you are lucky you may also see the wild desert elephants along the river.
The main lodge building is located at the foot of a hill, hidden by large boulders. The rooms are in multiple buildings nearby. You may drive right next to the rooms to unload your luggage but then must take your vehicle back to the main parking.
They serve a nice buffet in the evenings on the large restaurant terrace and the staff has a choir to entertain the guests. They also serve a good breakfast. There is a small swimming pool and the lodge organizes day tours in the area.
