Twenty & Six Espresso Melbourne Reviews
The Hunter and The Russian Mar 28, 2013
The names on the menu got us up and early one weekday in search of this place. Easily accessible by tram, this little cafe in North Melbourne serves up beautifully presented dishes.
The Hunter: Balsamic, red wine & rosemary roasted portobello mushrooms, Spanish chorizo on sourdough, crème fraiche & truffle oil ($18.90). Loved the balsamic, kept the dish light and interesting. Chorizo was spicy and do not remember tasting the truffle oil but overall the dish was delicious and surprisingly quite large and filling.
The Russian: Vodka & lemon house cured salmon tartare, free range poached egg, dill & preserved lemon labneh, seed & sprout sourdough ($16.90). Tartare was great! Not a fan of sprouts. Eggs were perfect. Added a side of bacon, presented like a rose...how is that possible...crispy, non-greasy. Another taste of perfection.
Loved that the chef sneak peeks out of the kitchen...to judge customer food satisfaction???
Coffee was good. Had seconds. I like mine milky and chocolate dusting over the cappuccino makes it a sure winner in my books.
Will wander this way again. Avoid the weekend queue, the cafe is small and it is tempting to just sit back with the papers and a coffee and just linger.
