Turks Cruises Kingston upon Thames Reviews
Turks Cruises May 13, 2012
Turk Boats have been sailing on The Thames for 300 years now. A family company that build boats, including for royalty, and run cruises on the river from Richmond and Kingston to Hampton Court Palace.
We decided to go to Hampton Court and thought this would be a more interesting way to do it. Boats seem to be every hour and a half from Richmond, and every 45 minutes from Kington upon Thames, where we were staying.
There are two piers for the boats in Kingston, Turks Pier just beside the bridge, and Town End Pier just down the river.
Cost £6-50 return for adults, and £5-50 for a child/concession. Got the 11-15 boat, which wasn't to busy, and there were seats outside, forward of the wheelhouse, an inside cabin with viewing windows and a downstairs lounge, with toilets. Boat we were on, the 'Yarmouth Belle' was licenced to carry 150 passengers.
Short stop to pick up more passengers at Town End Pier and then it was non stop down to Hampton. On one side is Hampton Court Park, and we saw a variety of birds, including herons and parrots :-O On the other side were a variety of riverside houses, pubs and rowing/boating clubs and yards.
Took 35 minutes to get down to Hampton, and, despite it not being that warm, was a fairly pleasant trip. Spent a few hours, going round the palace, before getting boat back at 4pm. There is a bar onboard, so you can enjoy a beer, Pimms or whatever you fancy.
Different way to travel and would be superb on a lovely summers day. Worth thinking of getting tube to Richmond or train to Kingston and adding it on to any visit to Hampton Court.
