Turkmenistan travel budget Jan 06, 2011
Period visited: 4 nights
Visa cost: 45 Euro / 5-day transit
Budget per day: 55 Euro
Actual per day: 61 Euro
Why so expensive?
Turkmenistan is an expensive country. I couch-surfed 2 nights, but also booked a tour to see the Darvaza crater and Konye Urgench.
Can it be cheaper?
If you only transit through the country it could be cheaper, but note that public transport is virtually non-existant, so you might as well splurge on a tour and actually see some of the country you travel through. If you wish to stay more than 5 days, you will need a tourist visa which means that you have to hire a guide for your entire stay, making solo travel a very expensive undertaking in Turkmenistan.
