WTF Mar 18, 2011
Is that kind of hotel, that cause the word WTF to be spoken out of you mouth. The initial WTF was on how small the room is and that there aren't much space to move around, I am afraid of hitting something every time I turn around. Second WTF was the air conditioning, you have to pay it separately with the room and they charged you according to the duration of air conditioning you need. Believe me, when you're in Malaysia, air conditioning unit is one of the most vital equipment you need to sustain a comfortable sleeping condition throughout the night. The third WTF is the price which is high comparing to other lodge or budget hotels. In general, if you're on the run and you don't mind all the small things, please go ahead and stay there. If you're thinking of spending the days with your families, having a nice room to play cards, chit chat, a drink may be.. then forget about Tune Hotel.

Excellent value for money accommodation in Kota Kinabalu Jun 24, 2011
This hotel is located in 1Borneo HyperMall, an integrated business and residential complex. There are a few hotels in the neighbourhood, ie Novotel, Grand Borneo and Courtyard. Universiti Malaysia Sabah is nearby. The facilities are very basic. Unlike Kuching, this tune hotel do not provide satellite channels

There is a shuttle to KK town every half hour or an hour depending on the time. You have to register for the service and the operator wiil give you a pass. Get there early as possible the shuttle is always fully booked.

The journey will take about half to an hour depending the traffic. The KK town is about 8 km away.

Overall it is a very good value for money accommodation in Kota Kinabalu

Middle of nowhere Jun 23, 2010
Don't go here unless you hire a car or want to be in bed early. The hotel is great, its the location that sucks. Taxi after 10 from town is a serious ripoff and the shuttle bus stops at 9 or so. This is not a place to hangout at night. The TV is not satellite so we found ourselves buying DVD and watching on the laptop with drinks in the room.

The morning bus is not till late so an early trip to the island left us frustrated as we waited for the bus. Eventually we found a local bus.

5* Bed = 1* Price Mar 04, 2009
I like the concept of Tune Hotel. Whoever came up with it I must personally congratulate.

Aside from it's Red and White color, what i like about Tune is that it offers something that's really basic. There's a big bed that's really comfortable (the 5* bed they claim to have is true), a toilet and a ceiling fan. Basically that's all you need. If you need more, then that's the only time you have to bring out your money: toiletries, aircon, TV and wifi are all chargeable add-ons. Just tell the front desk you need either one of those mentioned and they input it to your keycard. It's such a neat and practical concept don't you think? It's really perfect for the budget conscious. The more you save on accomdations, the more you can enjoy the other things the whole of Kota Kinabalu can offer.

One thing that i sort of don't like about Tune is the toilet door. It's made of frosted glass that doesn't fill out the whole door frame and has no lock. So anyone who's staying with someone of the opposite gender (and not involved in a romantic way) may find it a bit awkward. My friend and I had to wait turns and go all the way down for a smoke or a drink while the other one is using the toilet. Quite inconvenient. If you're the type who does not need to worry about those things or if you are a lone traveler, then it's the perfect hotel for you.

- Tune is located within the mall (1Borneo), so I don't even need to enumerate everything that is available when one lives beside a mall.

- 24 hour security.

- chargeable add-ons

- 711 on the lobby!

- There are rooms without windows. waking up can be quite an effort specially when it's all dark and you have no concept of time to begin with.

- 1Borneo is located far from the city center, in what seemed like the middle of nowhere. But fortunately 1Borneo has come up with a way for visitors to be connected with the rest of the city, and that is the Free shuttle service. The shuttles leave the drop off point at the South Atrium every hour (every 30 minutes for peak hours) and makes two stops: Likas Square and Warisan Square. From there, one can go to anywhere within the city area of beyond. The first bus leaves at 10AM, while the last bus leaves at 10PM. Beyond that you're pretty much on your own.

- it you're non-malaysian or do not speak the language, it's pointless to get credits for the TV. We've asked the front desk how many channels they have. They have 6. All local channels.
