Great bodhi tree! Mar 11, 2010
Built in the seventeenth century, the Tu Dam pagoda is one of the three national pagodas to be declared as such by the Nguyen dynasty. Despite its age, the temple was heavily restored nearly a century ago. The result is this amazingly detailed building with an impressive main hall for Buddha. It almost feels hard to believe that it is that old, but I’m glad it was restored for future generations.
The garden also has an impressive bodhi tree. In the early part of the twentieth century, an offshoot was bought to the temple from the bodhi tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment. Since then, the offshoot has blossomed into a tree of some size and definitely attracts your interest while you are at the entrance.
In a city which is littered with pagodas, you might be forgiven for visiting a few and giving this one a miss. In my opinion, this one is still worth visiting if only to see how the majestic bodhi tree has blossomed.
