In my review of Penmon I talk about a toll road. For this review we come to the other end of that road, only about a mile away. this is Trwyn Du or Black point but the lighthouse website calls it Dinmor Point - take your pick. Similarly the island just off the coast here is Ynys Seiriol in Wesh but in English you can choose between Prietholm, the old Viking name, and Puffin Island, which is the most widely used.

Unfortunately the last name became inappropriate after the late 19th century when a colony of brown rats became established and practically destroyed what had been a thriving colony of puffins. I read that the rats have encountered another predator, humans, who have exterminated them and that puffins are on the way up again.

The island is not populated and landing is not permitted. The short strait between it and Anglesey was dangerous for shipping, leading to the erection of the lighthouse on a rock just off the coast of Anglesey.

There is a cafe at the point where we enjoyed an ice cream. It was a sunny day and there were quite a number of people out to enjoy it.
