Clean, comfortable and quiet hostel Jan 24, 2014
My partner and I just stayed the one night here before heading off to Fitzroy Island.

Originally we were supposed to stay at sister hostel Traveller's Oasis, however I stuffed up the date. Lucky for us, Helen was fantastic and amended our booking without charging any cancellation fee and had a staff member come to collect us and bring us to Tropic Days.

We stayed in the private double which for backpackers may be a tad expensive however for us it was a cheaper option than staying in a shitty three star hotel. The room did not have a private bathroom however we only shared with one other room.

The room was quiet and comfortable. Air con comes at a price however the room was cool enough with the ceiling fan.

The hostel is not walking distance from the shops or Esplanade however they do run a shuttle bus every hour which is very convenient.

In terms of fun i can't really comment given we were only there for one night however I did note they run bbqs and other party nights throughout the week.

Safety is excellent. The hostel has a lock out from 8pm with access via a pincode.

Experience the Tropic North in Tropic Days Dec 29, 2012
We had stayed in Tropic Day's sister hostel 'Traveller's Oasis' and when they didn't have space for us when we tried to extend our stay they organised to move us up to Tropic Days. The hostel is pretty much the exact same atmosphere and feel as Traveller's Oasis - very chilled, nice pool/lounging area, covered in colourful hammocks.

The staff are as nice as in Traveller's. They will always have a smile and help you with regards anything you need.

There are 2 fully-stocked kitchens, free WIFI (unlike at Traveller's), air con costs $1 for three hours, the rooms have single beds as opposed to bunk beds, pool area, free BBQ. They also have pizza and BBQ nights which cost from $10 -$12. They're good fun and well worth the money!

The only negative to this hostel is it's location. It is located a fifteen minute walk from Cairns Central Station and Cole's Supermarket and about a 25 minute walk to the esplanade/lagoon. We thought this would be fine but in the blistering heat it is not ideal to be walking along street with little shade. Although, they do have a free transfer van that runs about 12 times a day in either direction. It runs nearly every hour except between 12.30 and 15.00. The van driver will also drop you to the Greyhound stop if you ask or pretty much anywhere reasonably close.

The hostel is close to a post office also! And a Subway... Yum!
