Trooperstown Lodge Guesthouse Laragh Reviews
Dream place with chaotic, however quite effective service Nov 04, 2010
We stayed here for two nights with the aim to visit Glendalough.
We had a special offer for 99 EUR 2 nights b&b including one special dinner in the local restaurant per person.
Owners are managing another 2 places around - restaurant and another guesthouse, which are in Laragh.. but, but this guesthouse is not in Laragh. It's some couple km away, besides if you dont have a car than the only way to reach it is walking along very busy and quite dangerous road. If you dont have a car, I would recommend to choose something more Laragh-centre-based :)
However, free service was provided from the guesthouse to restaurant, and back. Whenever you wanted. But if you do it quite often, then in one moment you can start to feel uncomfortable to distract restaurant staff from their tasks.
The place itself where the guesthouse is located is quite divine. Rooms are perfect and the living room with fireplace and big windows is like coming from some fairytale.
Erika is extremely helpful and always does the best so you feel like as at home.
Interesting thing is that breakfast is not in the guesthouse itself but in the restaurant 2 km away, so you need to organize how to get there in the morning.
Funny was also that until the last day we did not know who is the responsible person for our stay with whom we can agree everything and ask an advice. We did not need even to check in, we knew that we would need to pay for the stay in the restaurant but it was not clear to whom and when.. Staff was not the most coordinated one.. Some restaurant staff members knew that we are from guesthouse, some did not, and so we had tiny confusions with bills and with our special dinner, what we need to pay, what we don't have to, etc. But they got solved on the spot. Also be prepared to know all the practicalities yourself as staff is not really informed when buses to and from Dublin go, etc.
But... it was very nice.. and I would go there one more time. But by car most probably..
