Today we reached the northernmost spot of our holiday thanks to a day trip to Mikkelvik. After our drive through a 1.7km long underwater tunnel we came to a lovely place at the back of beyond that was covered with shells (a collector wouldn’t have known where to bend first).

3 weeks in Northern Norway - Tromsø and North Cape.. And then - an impulse decision: Svalbard - 78° N! After two weeks of rain, rain, rain we needed to experience something different. I love the arctic climate and nature - so why not spend a few days on Svalbard?! It was a great experience!!

Tromso, also known as "the Paris of the North".
A picturesque, peaceful, beautiful Arctic town. I visited Tromso a few years ago, my first trip to Scandinavia. I LOVED it there, just my kind of place, peaceful, fresh air, beautiful scenery and friendly people.

I never would have thought a cruise along the western coast of Norway would have been worthwile, but after my grandmother took my sister and I, I realized it was spectacular. The landscape had a harsh, rugged beauty and the near 24-hour sunlight within the arctic circle was really an experience. Bergen was the largest city in Norway (but has only 250,000 inhabitants). The hiking was just phenomenal - especially when we climbed on a glacier.
