Today we reached the northernmost spot of our holiday thanks to a day trip to Mikkelvik. After our drive through a 1.7km long underwater tunnel we came to a lovely place at the back of beyond that was covered with shells (a collector wouldn’t have known where to bend first).   In the…

Tromso, also known as "the Paris of the North". A picturesque, peaceful, beautiful Arctic town. I visited Tromso a few years ago, my first trip to Scandinavia. I LOVED it there, just my kind of place, peaceful, fresh air, beautiful scenery and friendly people.

I never would have thought a cruise along the western coast of Norway would have been worthwile, but after my grandmother took my sister and I, I realized it was spectacular. The landscape had a harsh, rugged beauty and the near 24-hour sunlight within the arctic circle was really an experience. Bergen was the largest city in Norway (but has only 250,000 inhabitants). The hiking was just phenomenal - especially when we climbed on a glacier.
