Trip to the Naeroyfjorden / sognefjord
Trip to the Naeroyfjorden / sognefjord Reviews

Just came back from a trip to the Sognefjord in norway. The best way to get there is by taking the same route as the "Norway in a nutshell" tour. Especially if you have a Eurail pass, it makes sense to NOT take the complete package.
You can either go via Oslo or via Bergen. I went via oslo. Make sure you are there in oslo well in time for the 8.11 am train to myrdal !! Take this train, the ride itself is very scenic. You will land at myrdal at 12.53. At 13.00 you have train from Myrdal to flam. You can buy the ticket in the train iself. The eurail pass is NOT valid on the FlamBanh. It costs 130 norwegian kroners ( after discount to eurail pass holders) and you have to pay CASH. It pretty expensive because IMHO, the oslo - myrdal ride was more scenic than the myrdal - flam route. Get down at Flam. Take a ferry to gundevagen. There are just two ferrys in a day. And from Nov 1, the ferry will not run daily either. Check the timetable online. The ferry will take you through the fjords and give you an AWESOME view !! get off at gundvagen, take a buss to Voss. This is also a scenic ride. Ferry will cost about 200 Kr, 50 % discount for eurail pass. Bus to Voss costs 73 kr, group discount of 17%. From Voss take a train to Bergen. Then you have a choice of either staying in bergen ( lots of youth hostels and cheaper than Oslo ) or take the night train back to oslo which reaches oslo at arnd 6 am. This is an awesome route, if you want to do the fjords but have a time and money crunch ! Part of the Eurotrip 2007 travel blog |

The way from Gudvangen to Flam isn't very far - just maybe 20 km or so. Since the weather was a bit better than the day before we decided to go by Flamsbana (Flam's railroad) to Myrdal and hike the Rallarvegen downhill back to Flam which is approxim…… Day 15: From Gudvangen to Flam |
